Slovenian Health Care

Slovenian Health CareWhen you talk about health care in Slovenia, this commonly falls under the responsibility of the Health Insurance Institute which was established on March 1, 1992. The Slovenian law on health care and insurance tasks the Institute to provide effective mobilization and allocation of public funds to insure that Slovenians get their basic health care rights and benefits including financial coverage like sick leave, funeral and travel costs and insurance payment for death benefits.

The health insurance card system was introduced and implemented on a national scare in 1999. This system issued a smart card to the person who was linked by a database between the insurance providers and the health care providers.
